Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

HOW DO I SECURE YOUR SERVICES FOR MY WEDDING?

We require both a signed contract and non-refundable retainer of $400 to secure your date. The retainer payment will be applied to the final balance.

WHAT IF I ONLY NEED HAIR OR MAKEUP SERVICES, NOT BOTH?

We're happy to work next to other beauty vendors on the day of the wedding. When you book Something You for BOTH services, our team will provide both hair and makeup trials at the same time so that you can see your full look come together before the big day. Many of our brides love booking us for both services due to the ease of coordinating everything with one vendor rather than two but we're open to either option.

WILL YOU TRAVEL TO MY LOCATION? IS THERE A FEE?

Yes! We travel to you so you can relax and enjoy your day! The first 25 miles of travel each way are included. A travel fee of $1 per mile per artist will be charged for any location that is over 25 miles from our studio in Wayne.

WHEN WILL I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE IN MY GROUP ARE HAVING HAIR & MAKEUP SERVICES?

We request a strong headcount at the time of contract signing so that we can reserve the correct number of artists for your group. The final headcount is due 60 days before the wedding. If someone wants to cancel services after that time, we’re able to transfer services to someone else in your group, but the final service count and invoice total cannot be lowered after the 60 day mark.

WHEN ARE PAYMENTS DUE AND WHAT PAYMENTS ARE ACCEPTED?

You will receive an online link to pay via bank transfer through our portal when payments are due.

Retainer payment - $400 – Due at contract signing to hold the date

Final payment – Due 14 days before the wedding

MY BIGGEST FEAR IS NOT LOOKING LIKE MYSELF ON MY WEDDING DAY. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEAM'S STYLE?

We specialize in bringing out the best version of YOU. We aren't looking to give you a cookie cutter style based on current trends. We sit and listen to our brides and take their likes/dislikes/lifestyle into account to fully customize their look. We don't want to make you unrecognizable when you walk down the aisle, we want your natural beauty to shine through.

WHAT IF I'M NOT SURE WHAT I WANT? WILL YOU HELP ME COME UP WITH A PLAN?

Yes! We will sit down at your trial and ask you lots of questions to figure out your comfort level and style. We'll work with you to create a look that brings out the best version of you. If you're unsure about wearing your hair half-up or in a classic updo, the trial would be the time to try out different options and get a good feel for what look is best for you.

WHAT SETS YOUR COMPANY APART?

3 things.

#1 We specialize in elevated natural beauty. Our brides usually come to us saying how everyone who has done their makeup caked it on and though it was pretty, it was just too much for them. We really understand the natural bride which you can see in our photos.

#2 Signature Timeline Coordination - We work directly with your vendors to create your wedding morning timeline. As the wedding gets closer, we’ll contact your photographer and find out what time they want your group to be ready and then we’ll build our schedule around them. This makes for a much more relaxing morning for your group and takes some tasks off your list the month before the wedding. We are the only beauty vendor in the Philadelphia area that does this!

#3 Our incredible team is like a family. Everyone has been hand selected based on their talent, style, and personality. Each artist is licensed in PA and is an expert in their craft. We all really love each other and you will love your new BFFs!

DO YOU TRAVEL TO DO WEDDINGS OUT OF STATE?

Yes, we travel and have passports! Please schedule a complimentary phone consultation to discuss options for destination wedding services.

CAN I WORK WITH YOU FROM A LONG DISTANCE?

Of course! We work with a lot of clients from outside of the Philadelphia area and even abroad. Everything can easily be done via email!

HOW SOON DO I NEED TO BOOK MY WEDDING MAKEUP & HAIR?

We’re unable to hold a date without a signed contract and retainer. The sooner you know your date, the better as we book up quickly! Most of our brides book us about a year before the wedding but some go as far as 2 years out! Once you have secured a venue and date, we advise that you should book hair and makeup right after.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO CHANGE ANY DETAILS (LOCATION, TIME, NUMBER OF PEOPLE) FOR MY WEDDING?

Shoot us an email if you need to make any changes. We try our hardest to accommodate you but if details change close to the wedding date we can’t always guarantee flexibility with our artist/stylist schedules.

Any service changes made within 60 days of the wedding date are not eligible for any refunds.

AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR PARKING FEES?

Yes, due to the amount of equipment our team must bring our clients are responsible for any parking fees. The parking fees per artist will be charged to your hotel folio.

HOW MUCH IS MY WEDDING DEPOSIT/RETAINER?

$400 is due at the time of booking. The balance is due two weeks before your wedding day.

IS MY DEPOSIT/RETAINER REFUNDABLE?

No. Your deposit/retainer is non-refundable in the event you decide to cancel for any reason.

WHAT IF I PAY FOR SOMEONE (AN ATTENDANT) ON MY CONTRACT AND THEY BACK OUT OF SERVICES?

If you are more than 60 days out from the wedding day we are happy to allow changes to the headcount. Within 60 days, you will still be responsible to pay the full balance due. If someone backs out of services, ask a friend or other family member to take their spot.

DO I HAVE TO PAY IN ONE SUM OR CAN MY ATTENDANTS PAY INDIVIDUALLY?

We will send you an invoice to pay online in one lump sum.

WHAT IS SIGNATURE TIMELINE COORDINATION?

With our Signature Timeline Coordination, we collaborate with your vendors to create a timeline around their plans. We then provide you with a detailed schedule of appointment times for each requested service. We are the only beauty company in the area that offers this extensive service. It's a game changer and is included in all of our bridal packages.

We will never cancel on you, ghost you, or take your money and disappear. We have a large team of exceptional artists, and we always have a backup on standby in the event of emergency. Sadly, the beauty industry has been overrun with fly-by-night artists who cancel on brides at the last minute.

We’re a licensed salon in the State of Pennsylvania and all artists must hold a cosmetology or esthetics license. You can be sure your artist is working with the highest levels of sanitation and that we put your safety first. We are fully insured and can provide your venue with a Certificate of Insurance upon request.

We're ethical and run our business with the utmost integrity so you can enjoy one of the happiest days of your life.

I WANT A VERY NATURAL LOOK AND NOT A TON OF MAKEUP. IS THE RATE THE SAME FOR THIS?

Yes. A very natural look is our specialty and it takes many years of experience to master this skill.

DO YOU OFFER BLOWOUTS? IS THERE A DIFFERENT PRICE FOR THIS? WHAT IF SOMEONE HAS VERY SHORT HAIR?

We do offer blowouts! If someone is receiving a blowdry only, they should arrive with damp hair. There is not a different price for blowouts or very short hair. All hair services are booked for the full appointment for their artist so there is plenty of time for them to get the look they love.

ARTISTS

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHICH ARTISTS WILL BE WORKING WITH MY GROUP?

Everyone on our team has been hand selected based on the style of their work matching the natural, laid back looks we are known for. Each artist is only assigned one wedding with us per day. While our company may be working on several weddings on your date, your artists will only be booked with your group.

PREVIEW SESSIONS

WHAT IF I AM DISSATISFIED WITH MY HAIR OR MAKEUP?

Oh no! We hate to hear that. Honesty is the best policy. If at any time you’re unhappy at your preview session, speak up! It won’t hurt our feelings. We will work out a solution to find a look you love. This is why we have these appointments - to find the perfect look for you. This is your wedding day, we want you to love it!

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY PREVIEW SESSION?

We recommend having your trial 1-2 months before the wedding when all the details are finalized. In our many years of wedding experience, we find that brides that it’s in the best interest of the bride to have the trial closer to the wedding when they can bring all of their accessories along with them and have a strong vision of the rest of their day.

Trials are typically done during the week at our studio in Wayne, PA. Weekend appointments are often unavailable as we are working on weddings Friday through Sunday.

WHERE DO THE PREVIEW SESSIONS AND STUDIO APPOINTMENTS TAKE PLACE?

All of our trials & in-studio appointments take place at our studio located in Wayne at 220 Sugartown Road Wayne, PA 19087.There is plenty of free parking available and we're located around the corner from Terrain at Devon Yard.

WHAT DAYS CAN I SCHEDULE A BRIDAL PREVIEW SESSION?

Trials are available Monday-Wednesday. Sometimes we are able to book Preview Sessions on Sundays when we are not at weddings.

WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO MAKE MY SCHEDULED PREVIEW SESSION? CAN WE RESCHEDULE?  WHAT IS THE COST?

Things happen, we understand. We request that you give us 24 hour notice when canceling or rescheduling. If you cancel within less than 24 hours more than once, we will charge a second retainer to reschedule.

ARE PREVIEW SESSIONS INCLUDED IN THE HAIR & MAKEUP PRICE FOR THE BRIDE?

Previews are only included in the Luxury Bride Package. For the Curated and Classic Bride Packages, they are charged at an additional fee.

HOW LONG TO PREVIEW SESSIONS TAKE?

We book 1 hour per service for Preview Sessions to include a personalized consultation with your makeup artist & hairstylist. We take the time to customize your entire look.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PREVIEW SESSION? IS IT REQUIRED?

While these appointments are not required, the purpose is for you to meet your artist/stylist and work with them to find a look that you love for your wedding day. Even if you haven’t nailed down your look, it's a good time to discuss looks and styles you like and do not like.

CAN I DO A PREVIEW SESSION BEFORE BOOKING?

While it is possible to have this appointment before booking, we are unable to hold any dates without a signed contract and retainer. In addition, if you have a Preview Session more than 6 months before the wedding, we cannot guarantee that the artist who completes your Preview will be the artist working with you on the day of the wedding.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY PREVIEW SESSION?

We suggest you bring a picture of your dress, styles that inspire you, and even styles you don’t like. We also recommend bringing any hair accessories or a veil you’d like to incorporate, as well as your wedding day jewelry. This will allow you to get an idea of your full look. We created this free guide to help you prepare for a Bridal Preview Session.

CAN I BRING A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER TO MY PREVIEW SESSION?

Of course! However, our studio is cute but tiny, so we ask you to bring no more than one person with you.

WILL THE SAME ARTIST THAT DOES MY PREVIEW SESSION BE THE ARTIST THAT WORKS WITH ME ON THE WEDDING DAY?

Yes! As long as your Preview Session happens within our recommended timeframe (1-2 months before the wedding), you'll be booked with your same wedding day artist. When trials are done too far in advance, we can't guarantee the same artist will be with you on your wedding day, but we certainly do our best to keep them with you.

WHEN SHOULD I REACH OUT TO YOU ABOUT SCHEDULING MY PREVIEW SESSION?

No need! We will contact you when we're booking with your specific artist for your wedding month. We usually contact our brides about 3 months before the wedding and offer a couple of dates that fall around the 1-2 month mark.

WHAT IF I WANT TO HAVE MY PREVIEW SESSION THE SAME DAY AS MY SHOWER?

While it's not completely impossible, we don't usually recommend doing this. We allow quite a bit of time for these appointments to make sure you really get the time to try out options and consult with your artist. We never want this appointment to be rushed! Also, this is meant to be a time when you try some things out so when you leave, your hair and makeup may not be exactly how you'll want it on the wedding day, or how you'd want to wear it for your Bridal Shower. We do love when our brides come into the studio on the morning of their shower to get their makeup done! While this isn't considered a Preview Session because it will not be with your same wedding day artist, it's a great opportunity to get comfortable with makeup and feel beautiful for your shower. Makeup applications can be booked at www.somethingyouonsite.com/schedule

HAIR | MAKEUP | PRODUCTS

ARE YOU ABLE TO DO A VARIETY OF SKIN TONES?

Absolutely! All of our makeup artists are professionally trained and have a makeup kit that can be used on every skin tone. We take this very seriously. We will never tell you to bring your own foundation (unless you have a specific allergy). We got you covered!

CAN YOU RECOMMEND HAIR EXTENSIONS FOR THE WEDDING DAY?

Yes! We offer our own brand of clip-in extensions to our clients! They are made with top quality Remy human hair and come in varying lengths. Pricing depends on the length and thickness that is needed. In order to determine the color, length, and thickness that is right for you, please email us a photo of your natural hair as well as a photo of your wedding hair inspiration. From there we can give you an accurate price quote and place your order!

WHAT TYPE OF MAKEUP DO YOU USE?

We carry a variety of pro and high-end luxury brands. All of the products in our kit are paraben-free,hypo-allergenic, and are suitable for sensitive skin.

Have an allergy? Please let us know.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF AIRBRUSH OVER TRADITIONAL MAKEUP APPLICATIONS?

Airbrush makeup comes in the form of a very thin, liquid-like foundation. Airbrush foundation is a special foundation that is highly colorized & pigmented and is sprayed directly onto your skin using an airbrush pen and compressor. When done correctly, this is a beautiful application technique for special events where you need to look flawless.

Negative reviews of airbrush makeup are usually because someone had airbrush makeup done incorrectly. When done incorrectly, airbrush makeup looks heavy, cakey, and can easily separate with tears. When done correctly, it looks like a second skin that lasts for hours.

ARE YOU ABLE TO COVER BLEMISHES/SKIN ISSUES?

The simple answer is yes. However, blemishes are often raised skin, and raised skin texture can still be noticeable even with coverage. We can take out the redness and discoloration, but we can’t really “flatten” or change the texture of the skin.

IS YOUR KIT SANITARY? I'M FREAKED OUT ABOUT GERMS.

Infection Control, AKA, sanitation is our #1 priority! You'll see our team use freshly cleaned brushes and new disposables on each member of the bridal party. We wash our hands, use sanitizer between clients, and keep our metal tools clean with alcohol spray. Our policy is always to scrape our powders, plus we wipe down all surfaces. We never double-dip. Your safety is our priority. Even before Covid-19.

IS YOUR MAKEUP WATERPROOF?

Our makeup is water resistant. We use advanced techniques to keep your makeup longwearing, even in the heat and humidity.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I AVOID IF I AM GETTING WAXED?

Avoid using any products containing AHA’s, beta hydroxy, or benzoyl peroxides for seven days before waxing. Please make sure you always let your esthetician know all the products you use.

You should NEVER get waxed the day before your wedding. We recommend tweezing the eyebrows instead.

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE WITH ME THROUGHOUT THE WEDDING DAY FOR TOUCH-UPS?

For touch-ups, we recommend purchasing a lip color to reapply throughout the day. Everything else should be pretty well set for the day!

WHAT IF I WANT TO PURCHASE MY LIP COLOR FOR MY WEDDING DAY?

We recommend asking your artist for the name and brand of the lip color they used at your preview session. This way you can purchase it to reapply all day.

HOW DO I REMOVE MY FALSE LASHES?

Apply a generous amount of baby oil to a cotton pad and work in a downward motion. Rinse. Do not tug or pull your lashes.
